Bringing Warmth to the Streets: LIPPA’s Winter Aid for Bratislava’s Homeless

Winter is brutal when you have no place to call home. As temperatures drop, survival becomes an everyday battle for people experiencing homelessness. The cold is relentless, and without proper shelter, warm clothing, or essential supplies, the risks of frostbite, illness, and even death increase dramatically. That’s why, in February 2024, LIPPA, in partnership with DePaul NGO in Bratislava, launched the “Warm Winter in Bratislava” project—a life-saving initiative designed to help those sleeping on the streets and in shelters endure the freezing months with dignity and safety.

A Lifeline in the Harshest Season

The goal was simple but urgent: keep people warm and safe. Exposure can be deadly, with Slovakia’s winter temperatures often plunging below freezing. This initiative focused on equipping shelters with vital resources while directly supporting those with no choice but to sleep outside. Through this project, individuals experiencing homelessness received warm clothing, thermal blankets, and essential supplies to help them withstand the cold. Additionally, support was extended to shelters, ensuring they had the capacity and resources to provide refuge to as many people as possible during winter.

More Than Just Aid—A Commitment to Dignity

LIPPA’s approach goes beyond emergency relief. It acknowledges the humanity of every individual and ensures that no one is forgotten, especially during the most unforgiving time of the year. Access to warm clothing and shelter is not a luxury—it’s a fundamental human right.

Stronger Together: The Power of Collaboration

Partnerships make real change possible. Working alongside DePaul NGO, an organization with deep local knowledge and a strong presence in Bratislava, ensured that support reached the most vulnerable efficiently and effectively. By combining resources and expertise, we maximized impact—helping as many people as possible safely through the winter. No One Should Have to Fight the Cold Alone.
