Building Schools in Rural Sierra Leone: Changing Children’s Futures
For children in rural Sierra Leone, the lack of a nearby school creates barriers that go far beyond education. Many must walk long and often unsafe distances each day, while others stay home or are pushed into work to support their families. Girls face additional risks, including safety concerns and early dropout. Without education, children face limited opportunities and a higher risk of long-term poverty.
A school close to home would change this reality—providing safety, stability, and the chance to learn, grow, and shape a better future. That’s why Lippa has committed to making this vision a reality.
Learning Against the Odds

In the rural communities of Kongo and Mabojama in Sierra Leone, the desire for education has always been strong. Parents and community members have done what they could with the little they had—creating temporary classrooms with their own hands, recruiting teachers, and encouraging children to learn despite difficult conditions.
In Kongo, a self-built school collapsed due to a lack of resources and materials. In Mabojama, construction began but could not be completed. Today, many children continue to learn in unsafe, makeshift spaces—or are unable to attend school at all.
With LIPPA’s support and local partnership, that is now beginning to change.
Creating Safe Spaces

In the coming months, our focus is on turning these unfinished efforts into lasting schools. We will build two new schools from the ground up, creating safe and well-designed spaces where children can learn and thrive.
These will not be empty structures—they will include everything a proper learning environment requires, from desks and whiteboards to safe sanitation facilities and a playground. We believe every child belongs in school. That is why we are ensuring the buildings are fully accessible, with ramps and facilities designed to support students with disabilities
