Stopping the Bleed, Saving Lives: LIPPA’s Tourniquet Training in Ukraine
In times of war, a few crucial seconds can mean the difference between life and death. Severe bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in conflict zones, making rapid and effective intervention essential. Recognizing this urgent need, LIPPA, in partnership with STEP IN NGO, launched the “Tourniquets for the Wounded in Ukraine” project on May 24, 2024.
Empowering First Responders with Lifesaving Skills
A tourniquet, when applied correctly, can control life-threatening bleeding and dramatically increase survival rates. However, improper use can lead to complications, making professional training essential. This initiative focused on equipping Ukrainian medical professionals, emergency responders, and frontline personnel with the skills to effectively apply tourniquets in high-pressure situations.
Key aspects of the training included:
- Proper tourniquet application techniques to stop excessive bleeding
- Rapid assessment of injuries in battlefield and emergency conditions
- Recognizing when and how to use tourniquets safely to prevent complications
- Hands-on practice to ensure confidence and accuracy in real-life scenarios
Combining Knowledge with Action
Beyond training, LIPPA and STEP IN supplied high-quality tourniquets to hospitals, field medics, and emergency teams across Ukraine. These medical tools, paired with expert-led instruction, significantly enhanced Ukraine’s ability to provide immediate trauma care, reducing preventable fatalities and ensuring that critical injuries receive the attention they need—fast.
A Commitment to Crisis Healthcare
At LIPPA, we believe that humanitarian aid is about more than just supplies—it is about ensuring people have the knowledge and tools to use them effectively. By launching the “Tourniquets for the Wounded in Ukraine” project, we are reinforcing our commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and supporting medical teams working tirelessly to save lives.
In moments of crisis, every tourniquet applied correctly is a life preserved. LIPPA stands firm in its mission to empower, equip, and protect those on the frontlines—because in war zones, every second counts.
